Juicy, extremely pure raspberry and mulberry flavors are complemented by notes of violet and rose pastille, with tangy minerality providing spine. A spherical, seamless wine that delivers a wallop of sweet fruit while maintaining admirable restraint and focus. Finishes with terrific cut and lingering spiciness. Manages to be powerful and wiry at the same time; this will live a long time on balance and energy.

Dark and driven, with lots of licorice snap, charred mesquite, black currant paste and espresso notes carried by a long, tarry finish. A bit brooding, but the length and acidity is there.

Inky ruby. Powerful aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry and olive, with a smoky undertone of dark chocolate and violet. Weighty dark berry and violet pastille flavors coat the palate, with velvety tannins providing shape on the back. Rich but not especially heavy, with very good finishing cling to the flavors of candied flowers and cracked pepper.

The 2007 St.-Joseph exhibits gorgeous raspberry fruit intermixed with spring flowers. Medium-bodied and complex, it could easily be mistaken for a top-notch red Burgundy.
